TravelJOY not only provides the basic amnesties of a travel insurance such as personal accident cover or cover for baggage loss or delay but also offers comprehensive cover for instances of hospitalisation, hijacks, and financial collapse of licensed tour operators.

    Types of Travel Insurance provided by CIMB

    CIMB offers 4 different TravelJOY insurance policy variants to choose from:

    • Elite Plan: The most comprehensive plan that not only offers the basic amenities provided by the vital plan but also provides additional areas of coverage such as additional indemnity for traffic accidents, delays arising out of hijack situations and cover for loss of hotel facilities.
    • Deluxe Plan: The second most comprehensive coverage plan in the CIMB TravelJOY roster, the deluxe plan provides most of the areas of cover that the Elite plan does but the amount of cover provided is much lesser in value.

    How to claim your CIMB Travel Insurance (TravelJOY)

    The following procedures are applicable to file a claim for your travel insurance with CIMB:

    • You will have to notify CIMB regarding your reason for making the claim. Claims should be made within a time span of 30 days from date of incident. You can contact the insurer on their Travel Emergency Hotline number available 24 hours at +65 6532 2522.
    • In case of loss or theft, you should file a police report within 24 hours of the incident. A copy of this report must be submitted at the time of making a claim.
    • If your property has been damaged by an airline or any other mode of transportation that is covered by the travel policy such as a bus or train, then a property damage report must be obtained.
    • Always try and ensure that you click enough photos of the damaged property. This would serve as photographic evidence and would assist the insurer during the time of inspection.
    • If damage or injury has occurred to any third party then note down the particulars of the party and keep details such as their nature of the claim. At no point of time should you agree to negotiate or settle with the third party nor should you admit any liability without obtaining prior permission from the insurer.
    • The insurance provider should be notified immediately if you have been issued any notification or intimation from the third party.
    • During the time of making your claim, you should do it through the correct channels. You can either submit your claim online or contact the insurer and ask for a claim form to be sent to you. This claim form should be completed and submitted to the insurer along with the necessary supporting documents.

    In cases of application for Individual Single trip or Annual Multi-trip, the eligibility conditions are as follows.

    • Singaporean nationals and permanent residents can apply for this travel insurance policy.
    • Foreigners residing in Singaporean holding valid work permits, employment or student visas or dependent visas can also apply for this policy.
    • If an aspiring policyholder is under the age of 16 years, then their individual travel insurance plan application must be made in the name of their parent or guardian and the limit of cover available on the policy will be those applicable to a Family Plan.

    In cases of application for Family plan Single Trip or Annual Multi-trip, the eligibility conditions are as follows.

    • For single family trips, any one or maximum two adults travelling with any number of children can apply for the policy. In this case, the two adults need not be related to each other but the children are required to be legal wards or kids of the adults or should be relation such as cousin or sibling.
    • For family annual multi-trips, the policy can be taken only by the insured and is valid for their spouse and dependent children. Dependent children are children below the age of 21 years who are unmarried and must be accompanied by at least one of the insured adults.

    CIMB Travel Insurance FAQs

    1. After purchasing the travel insurance policy, when will the commencement of the cover start and how long is it applicable?

      After the purchase of the policy, the commencement of cover begins upon embarkation of your journey. The cover is valid when you embark from your home or office to the place of departure from Singapore to your intended destination. After you have purchased the travel insurance policy, the cover on your policy will start when you leave your office/home in Singapore for your trip and will be in effect for 3 hours after you return to Singapore or when your policy expires, depending on whichever occurs earlier.

    2. Can I extend my travel insurance policy when I’m overseas?

      Yes. One can extend their travel insurance policy while overseas. Policyholders must call on the Sompo insurance hotline before midnight of the date of policy expiry. Do note that if the trip has to be extended for circumstances beyond your control, then you will enjoy free extension of the policy.

    3. How exactly does the cover for financial collapse of licensed tour operators work?

      If the licensed tour operator undergoes financial collapse (any circumstance excluding fraud) after the TravelJOY policy commences, the policy will cover for your losses provided that you made the travel arrangements at a licensed travel agency in Singapore.

    4. Does the policy cover pre-existing medical conditions?

      No. The policy will not cover for any medical costs that arise during travel which are a direct cause from any pre-existing medical condition the policyholder may have.

    5. Are foreigners eligible to apply for CIMB Travel Insurance (TravelJOY)?

      Yes. Foreigners who hold a valid employment pass or a work permit or a student visa or a prolonged social visit pass or even a dependent pass and are currently residing in Singapore are eligible to apply for CIMB Travel Insurance (TravelJOY).
