SINGAPORE: Targeting young families, AIA Singapore has launched an investment-linked plan (ILP) with riders that offer extra protection to children.

The introduction of AIA Pro Lifetime Protector comes as the company’s own research shows that child healthcare and pregnancy-related complications are some of the major concerns of young families in Singapore.

Two of the three riders offered along with this product cover mental-health problems among children and complications arising from artificial-insemination procedures. The third rider could help restore critical illness cover once it has been claimed.

The AIA Parenthood and Protection Study 2017 had shown that young parents are increasingly worried about learning disability issues in children. Recent studies have shown cases of mental health issues like ADHD, dyslexia, and autism remain significantly high among children in the country.

Reports have also shown that more and more families are opting for procedures such as IVF. While these methods are generally considered safe and efficient, chances of complications are not too low.

According to Dr. Tan Toh Lick, gynaecologist and obstetrician at Thomson Women's Clinic and Thomson Wellth Clinic, risks of complications are higher in IVF pregnancies compared to normal pregnancies. People born through IVF conception could also be more vulnerable to diseases like cancer.

The rider that is offered with AIA Pro Lifetime Protector provides coverage to the mother from the 13th week of pregnancy and babies born through various artificial-insemination procedures.
