How to Activate SingPass Account

SingPass being a virtual technological service, is susceptible to cyber attacks. However, the government aims to serve you optimally and protect your data from cyber threats. To ensure that your information on SingPass is protected from identity thefts and hacking, the Two Factor Authentication (2FA) system was launched in July 2015.

To ensure that you are receiving updates and notifications appropriately, it is necessary to update your SingPass account. The update needs to be done if you are logging in to the enhanced SingPass site for the first time. This one-time account update involves the following activities:

  • Changing your password after the initial login
  • Providing and checking your mobile number (overseas number not allowed)
  • Providing and checking your email address
  • Providing your residence/office address

When you attempt to update any information in the SingPass database, you will be asked to authenticate the change through a One-Time Password (OTP). Your SingPass 2FA has to be active for this system to work.

Changing SingPass password

If you haven’t updated your SingPass account password in over 24 months (2 years), then you will have to change or reset it. Go to ‘Change Password’ among the menu options, and enter a new password. The password should meet the following conditions:

  • The password cannot be the same as the user ID.
  • The password should contain both alphabets and numbers.
  • The password should be between 8 to 24 characters strong.
  • Common passwords such as password 123 cannot be used.

Checking mobile number and email on SingPass

You need to go to ‘Update your SingPass Account’ and check whether you have already provided your mobile number and email. If there is a number or email address present on the portal, verify that they are correct. If there is no number or email address provided or the given details are incorrect, enter the correct mobile number and email. You can also select the way you’d like to receive SingPass OTPs/notifications – either mobile SMS or email. You cannot have one mobile number registered to multiple SingPass accounts.

Any change you make in the contact details will be verified through OTP – either sent to your mobile through SMS or to the email id. Please enter the OTP number to authorise the change.

Once you complete the update of contact details, you will receive a confirmation letter to your registered address. The letter may arrive within 4 working days if you live in Singapore.
