Who Are Eligible?

If you wish to purchase any of the above two policies, you will have to fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

  • You must hold a valid Singapore identification card such as NRIC or a Foreign Identification Number (FIN).
  • You must be 65 years old or younger (Personal Accident Insurance). To purchase Term Life Insurance policy, your age must be between 18 and 60.
  • You have never been refused any personal accident insurance nor has your personal accident insurance ever been cancelled.
  • You are not exposed to any hazards that are recognised as dangerous or detrimental to your health.
  • You are currently residing in Singapore. However, you will continue to be covered until you keep paying your premiums.

General Exclusions

You will not be covered under the following circumstances:

  • Wilful participation by you or your family members under the policy in illegal or unlawful activities in Singapore or the country you are in.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS no matter how they are caused.
  • Intentional self-injury or suicide.
  • If you or your family members act in a careless, reckless or negligent manner putting yourself and others in danger. For example, riding a motorcycle without a helmet or without a valid driving license.
  • Any mysterious and unexplained damage or loss.
  • Claims resulting from pre-existing medical conditions.
  • Consequences of revolution, riots or war.
  • Pregnancy, childbirth or any complications arising out of such conditions.
  • Damage caused as a result of hazardous substances such as radioactive, nuclear, pathogenic or chemical materials.

How Do I Make a Claim?

If you wish to make a claim, you can either call FWD’s emergency assistance number at  +65-6322-2072 or you can visit FWD’s website and file your claim on the claims portal. You or your lawyer must inform FWD about any incident within 30 days of the incident. You will have to file a claim using FWD’s standard form and you must provide FWD with all the relevant information and assistance. In addition to the claims form, you will have to submit the following documents:

  • Police reports.
  • Copies of original invoices and receipts.
  • Medical reports and evidence.
  • English translations of documents required by FWD.

Things You Should Consider Before You Purchase FWD Insurance Policy

Before you go ahead and purchase this insurance policy, you must consider the following things:

  • You must inform FWD about any change in your occupation and get a written agreement from FWD. If you fail to do this, you may not get any benefit.
  • You also must inform FWD if you change your resident country.
  • FWD reserves the right to lodge a report with the local police if it finds out that you have submitted a fraudulent claim.
  • You will have to return any amount that you are not covered for under this policy.

How to Terminate FWD Insurance Policy

If you are not happy with this insurance policy, you can cancel it at any time by writing to FWD. FWD will not pay any refund less than S$25. If you cancel your insurance policy within the free-look period of 14 days from the purchase of the policy, then you will get a refund on a portion of your premium only if you have not made any claim. FWD also has the right to cancel your policy as per its discretion by giving you a written notice of seven days. The policy will also be terminated automatically during any of the following instances:

  • The total benefit paid from this policy equals the sum insured.
  • You write to FWD expressing your wish to terminate the policy.
  • FWD does not get the premium within the 62-day grace period.
  • The policy has reached the end date.

However, if your policy was terminated because you failed to pay the premiums, it can be reinstated when you take the following steps:

  • Apply again within three years of the policy getting terminated.
  • Offer FWD satisfactory evidence that you are still eligible for the insurance based on the factors at the time of purchasing the policy.
  • Pay all the pending premiums together with interest.
