    Apply for a Passport in Singapore

    Eligibility

    You must be a citizen of Singapore to apply for a passport.

    Documents Required

    Online Application

    • You only need a recent passport-size colour photograph.

    Photo Guidelines:

    • Must be taken in the last 3 months.
    • Should be clear and sharp with no borders.
    • Size of the photograph should be 35mm by 45mm.
    • Colour photograph with a white background and no shadows.
    • Avoid wearing white headgear or plain white clothes (religious headgears are allowed as long as they do not hide any facial features).
    • Must show full face with the upper shoulders.
    • Must look directly at the camera with eyes open.
    • Hair should not cover eyebrows and eyes.
    • Must be taken with uniform lighting without flash.
    • Spectacles must not cover any part of the eyes.
    • Eye lenses must not glare or reflect.
    • Photograph must be in JPEG image format with .jpg file extension.
    • Image size should be 400 by 514 pixels.
    • File size should not exceed 150 KBytes.

    By post or deposit box

    You need to send the completed Singapore Passport Application Form. To fill this form, you need the following information:

    • NRIC/Birth Certificate/Citizenship Certificate number.
    • Date of Birth and Place of Birth.
    • Address and contact number.
    • Credit or debit card number.
    • Parent’s NRIC number (if below 16 years of age).

    Procedure

    • Online: Log into APPLES e-Service with your SingPass 2FA and complete the application form.
    • By post or deposit box: Download the Singapore Passport Application Form, fill up the details, and send it to the address mentioned on the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website. Alternatively, you can drop the form in deposit boxes at floors 1, 2 or 3 or outside the ICA building.

    Fees

    You need to pay a passport application fee of S$70. To make the payment online, you can use either of the following:

    • Visa/Mastercard credit or debit card.
    • American Express credit card.
    • Internet banking accounts of DBS/POSB, UOB, OCBC, Citibank or Standard Chartered.

    Alternatively, you can pay through NETS or CashCard if you applied for a passport by post or deposit box.

    Processing Time

    Your passport will get processed in a week after you apply online. During peak seasons, your application may take longer to process. The processing time might get delayed if your image does not meet the ICA criteria.

    Once your application is processed, you will receive a notification card either by post or email.

    Validity

    Your passport has a validity of 5 years. If you want to apply for another passport and have a remaining validity of up to 9 months or less in your old passport, then the outstanding validity will get transferred to your new passport. Hence, your new passport will have a validity of 5 years and 9 months.

    Apply for a Passport Overseas

    Eligibility

    You must be a citizen of Singapore to apply for a passport.

    Documents Required

    Online application

    • You only need a recent passport-size colour photograph (please refer to the guidelines below).

    At Singapore Overseas Mission

    • The completed Singapore Passport Application Form (overseas).
    • Your recent passport-size, digital, colour photograph (please refer to the guidelines below).

    For adults:

    • Identity card (IC).
    • Current passport.

    For applicants below the age of 16 years of age:

    • IC of a parent or a legal guardian.
    • Birth certificate.
    • Citizenship certificate if you are a citizen of Singapore by registration but do not have an IC.
    • Current passport issued in Singapore (if any).

    Procedure to Apply

    • Online application: Online: Log into APPLES e-Service with your SingPass 2FA, select the closest Singapore Overseas Mission, and submit the completed form.
    • At a Singapore Overseas Mission: Download the Singapore Passport Application Form (overseas), fill up the details, and submit it in person at any of the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission. Please note that you must visit the Mission at least once in person, either when you submit your form or when you collect the passport.

    Fees

    Online application A fee of S$70 applies
    At any Singapore Overseas Mission An equivalent amount of S$80 in a foreign currency. Get in touch with the Mission to know the exact amount.

    To make the payment online, you use either of the following:

    • Visa/Mastercard credit or debit card.
    • American Express credit card.
    • Internet banking accounts of DBS/POSB, UOB, OCBC, or Citibank.

    Processing Time

    Your application will take around 3 to 4 weeks to process if you submit all the necessary documents. The processing time might get delayed if your image does not meet the ICA criteria. Once your application is accepted, you will receive your passport at the Singapore Overseas Mission nearby.

    Validity

    A valid passport will have a validity of 5 years. When you apply for a new passport, if you have a remaining validity of up to 9 months or less in your old passport, then the remaining validity will be transferred to your new passport. Hence, your new passport will have a validity of 5 years plus 9 months from the old passport.

    Collecting Your Passport

    If you are in Singapore, you will get a pink acknowledgment card by post within a week from the day the ICA received your application. You must collect your passport within a month of receiving the acknowledgment card. If the passport is not collected within 3 months, then it will get cancelled and the fee will not be returned.

    At ICA

    You can visit the ICA building and collect your new passport. However, you must make an appointment before collecting the passport. Carry the following documents when you collect your passport:

    • The acknowledgment card.
    • Current Singapore passport (submit a police report in case of theft of passport or make a statutory declaration if the passport was lost or damaged).
    • NRIC.

    If you are below 16 years of age: Your consenting guardian or parent must accompany you to the ICA with these following documents:

    • Birth Certificate.
    • Citizenship Certificate.
    • MOE Student Card (if applicable).
    • NRIC of the parent or guardian.

    Note: If the parent or the legal guardian cannot be present during the collection, they can authorise their spouse to accompany you. The spouse must bring his/her NRIC.

    From a Post Office

    Your acknowledgment card will mention the option of collecting the passport at SingPost only if you are eligible. To do so, visit the ICA website, log into your account, and state that you want to collect it from a SingPost branch office. An additional fee applies if you collect your passport this way.

    Collect from iCollect

    You can choose to collect your passport from iCollect, a self-service machine kept at ICA’s eLobby. If you are eligible to do so, the pink acknowledgment card will have it mentioned. Log into your ICA account and indicate your wish to collect it this way.

    Collect from the Singapore Overseas Mission

    If you are collecting your passport from the Mission, please carry these documents:

    • NRIC.
    • Current Singapore passport (submit a police report in case of theft of passport or make a statutory declaration if the passport was lost or damaged).
    • Birth Certificate.
    • Citizenship Certificate.
    • NRIC of the parent or guardian.
    • Applicants who are below 16 years of age will have to carry additional documents.

    Note: If the parent or the legal guardian cannot be present during the collection, they can authorise their spouse to accompany you. The spouse must bring his/her NRIC.
