    Bill payments are a part and parcel of everyone’s life and as much as one may despise it, it has to be paid. Paying these bills through a credit card can be advantageous. Many credit cards extend the benefits of the card to bill payments as well allowing cardholders to earn reward points or cashback on such a common expense. The credit cards that provide such benefits are usually all-in-one credit cards or those that are tailored for everyday use. Below are a list of credit cards that provide benefits when making bill payments.

    HSBC Visa Platinum Card

    • Bill Payment Benefits: The card is a cashback card offering a 5% cash rebate on payment of recurring bills such as mobile bills or cable TV bills. The rebate is even applicable on internet bills. The rebates are valid only when telecommunication companies in Singapore provide recurring bill payment services on HSBC credit cards.
    • Card Benefits: The card is an ideal everyday card that offers cash rebates on fuel expenses and grocery expenses alongside recurring bill payments. The card provides a 5% cash rebate on all fuel expenses charged to the card and also gives the cardholder a 16% instant discount on fuel expenses at Caltex and Shell petrol stations. Cardholders can get a 5% cash rebate on all grocery expenses incurred at any local grocery store or supermarket. When cardholders visit a food and beverage outlet, they can earn a 2% cash rebate on dining expenses. This rebate excludes hotel dining. The cash rebates are earned when the cardholder charges S$800 per month for all three months in a calendar quarter.
    • Eligibility Criteria: The card charges an annual fee of S$192.60 for the primary card. The supplementary card is free. The minimum annual income required to avail this card is S$30,000 for Singaporean nationals or permanent residents and S$45,000 for foreign nationals. The minimum age for the principal cardholder is 21 years and 18 years for the supplementary cardholder.

    UOB One Card

    • Bill Payment Benefits: The UOB One card from UOB is an everyday card that offers a cashback on bill payments made through the card. Cardholders can earn up to 5% cashback on payment of recurring bills such as telecom bills or mobile/internet/cable TV bills.
    • Card Benefits: The cardholder can earn a maximum cash rebate of S$300 when they charge S$2,000 per month for all three months in a calendar quarter. The card offers savings on petrol expenses of up to 20.8% at Shell stations and 24% at SPC stations. The card also earns SMRT$ with every expense charged to the card. This SMRT$ can be used for instant rebates of up to 10% at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, 3% rebate at Sephora, BreadTalk, and EpiCentre and 2% rebate at Cathay Cineplexes, World of Sports and Metro. Cardholders can earn preferential interest rates on deposits made into their UOB One account. Deposits of S$50,000 and above enjoy an effective interest rate of 1.6% when S$500 is charged to the card on a monthly basis.
    • Eligibility Criteria: The card has an annual fee of S$214 for primary credit card and S$107 for the supplementary card. The annual fee is waived for the first year. The minimum age for a cardholder is 21 years and the minimum annual income required to avail this card is S$50,000. If minimum annual income criteria cannot be met, then the applicant needs a collateral in the form of a Fixed Deposit that has a minimum value of S$20,000.

    POSB Everyday Card

    • Bill Payment Benefits: The card offers cash rebates on recurring bill payments. Cardholders can earn a 1% cash rebate when they pay recurring utility bills from SP services. Recurring bills from StarHub such as mobile bills, digital cable bills and broadband bills paid using the card earns a 1% cash rebate. The bills are charged to the card and hence consolidates payment making it easier for the cardholder.
    • Card Benefits: Cardholders can get cash rebates of up to 5% on overseas expenses and is valid till 28th February 2017. The card also earns cashback on a wide range of everyday expenses. Cardholders can get savings of up to 20.1% on petrol expenses incurred at SPC stations as well as a 5% cash rebate when purchasing groceries at Sheng Siong outlets. Beauty and wellness expenses incurred at Watsons gives the cardholder a cash rebate of 3%. The card can also be used as an all-in-one card by linking it to the cardholder’s POSB Savings account allowing cardholders to use it as an ATM card. The card can also be used as an EZ-Link card.
    • Eligibility Criteria: The card charges an annual fee of S$128.40 for the primary card and S$64.20 for the supplementary card. The annual fee is waived for the first year. The minimum age for a cardholder is 21 years and the minimum annual income required to avail this card is S$30,000 for Singaporean nationals and S$45,000 for foreign nationals.

    DBS Live Fresh Card

    • Bill Payment Benefits: The card earns reward points on every expense charged to the card and this is inclusive of payments made towards recurring utility bills from SP Services. The card has no cap on the reward points earned and earns points at a rate of 1 point for every S$5 charged to the card.
    • Card Benefits: The card earns reward points at 1 point for every S$5 charged to the card and for online shopping expenses and select Visa PayWave transactions, the card earns 3 reward points for every S$5 charged to the card. These reward points can be redeemed for a wide variety of gifts such as vouchers for CapitalMall Asia and Takashimaya Department Store. The vouchers can also be redeemed for Miles at major frequent flyer programmes such as KrisFlyer, AsiaMiles and AirAsia. The card can be used as an all-in-one card and can be linked to the cardholder’s DBS savings/current account allowing the card to perform ATM withdrawals from the account, third party ATM fund transfers and NETS transactions. The card can also be used as an EZ-Link card.
