Activating the Card for Overseas Expenses

If you are planning for an overseas trip and intend to use your Standard Chartered card, you will have to activate the magnetic stripe. This is because the magnetic stripe is inactive in Singapore, where we use the EMV Chip technology. Other countries may still be using the stripe, so you would have to make it ready for transactions before going abroad. Since magnetic stripes are not as secure as the EMV chip, it also has to be deactivated once you are back in Singapore.

There are three ways of doing this:

    • Send an SMS to 75722.
    • Visit the bank’s website.
    • Use ‘SC Mobile’ application.

    Instalment Payment Plans Available

With all Standard Chartered cards, you will have the option of using two types of interest-free instalment payment plans. These are the 0% Instalment Payment Plan (IPP) and EasyPay.

    • 0% IPP: With this plan, you can choose a tenure of up to 36 months without paying any additional enrolment charges. You will still be eligible for the cashback and Rewards Points for purchases carried out using this facility. You can apply for this IPP at outlets that are partnered with the bank.
    • EasyPay: This programme allows you to pay for transactions of S$500 or more in instalments spread out over 6 months or 1 year. There will be a processing fee of 5%, and an effective interest rate of 17.6% p.a. for the 6-month tenure and 9.5% p.a. for the one-year tenure. You can apply for this facility either through online banking or phone banking, after the purchase is made. If you wish to cancel the instalments and pay off the dues, you will have to pay S$150 as termination fee.

Cash Withdrawal on the Credit Card

    • Withdraw cash using your card to meet a shortfall, if necessary.
    • The amount you can withdraw will depend on the credit limit available on your card.
    • You can do so conveniently through:
      • Any SCB ATM.

      • Through the ATMs or branches of banks with a Mastercard or Cirrus logo.
