Welcome to a card that is designed to help you pay for your purchases in an easier way. In addition to this, you also get 1x DBS Points for every S$5 you spend on the card. Using the DBS Black American Express Card, you can buy what you need and pay for them in smaller instalments over periods spanning up to 12 months. This facility bears zero interest as well, helping you pay for your transactions with ease, giving you more financial freedom every month.
|Rewards points on all purchases||1 DBS Point for every S$5 spent|
|Complimentary travel insurance||Not applicable|
This card rewards the cardholder with DBS Points for all purchases charged to the card. This is calculated for each transaction made. You will earn 1 DBS Point for every S$5 spent, and the points will be earned by supplementary cardmembers too. All the points earned – of both the primary and supplementary cardholders – will be credited to the primary card account. The points are given out in blocks of S$5 and not S$1. You will usually receive these rewards points within the next day, following the posting of the transactions to your card account.
You can use the earned rewards points across different merchants under the DBS Lifestyle programme, or you can redeem them for KrisFlyer miles. For instance, let’s assume a person spends S$200 in a month on online and retail shopping transactions, this would earn him 40 DBS Points on these transactions. Under the DBS Rewards Frequent Flyer programme, the cardholder gets 2 KrisFlyer/Asia miles for every 1 DBS Point.
So, if the same person earns 40 DBS Points for online and retail shopping spends, he/she can convert them for 80 KrisFlyer miles. Similarly, he/she can earn DBS Points on other monthly purchases too, or convert them for KrisFlyer miles. The following table illustrates the DBS Points earning scheme when the principal cardholder makes purchases across several categories in any particular month:
|Spend category||Monthly spend||Points Earned||Equivalent KrisFlyer miles or Asia Miles|
|Dining||S$200||40 DBS Points||80 KrisFlyer miles or Asia Miles|
|Online/Retail Shopping||S$200||40 DBS Points||80 KrisFlyer miles or Asia Miles|
|Grocery||S$300||60 DBS Points||120 KrisFlyer miles or Asia Miles|
|Petrol||S$100||20 DBS Points||40 KrisFlyer miles or Asia Miles|
|Other purchases||S$400||80 DBS Points||160 KrisFlyer miles or Asia Miles|
|Total||S$1,200||240 DBS Points||480 KrisFlyer miles or Asia Miles|
You can exchange the DBS Points earned for cash vouchers. There are several rewards listed under DBS Lifestyle programme where the cash vouchers can be redeemed. You have to simply visit rewards.dbs.com and select the reward – from an array of categories – for which you want to redeem the vouchers. Some merchants also allow instant redemption of rewards points online.
Besides, you can also get in touch with DBS by calling at 1800 111 1111 and follow the process for redemption. However, you must have 15% additional DBS Points if you’re planning to make redemption via telephonic channels.
You can also convert the DBS Points into KrisFlyer Miles or Asia Miles, under the Frequent Flyer Programme. 1 DBS Point is equivalent to 2 KrisFlyer or Asia miles. However, you must transfer a minimum of 5,000 DBS Points for one conversion. An administrative fee of S$26.75 will be applicable each time you convert DBS Points into air miles. The miles will be credited to the frequent flyer account you choose, within one to two weeks from the date the conversion was made.
