Citibank SMRT Platinum Visa credit card is one among the many credit cards offered by Citibank. It is a cashback credit card that offers discounts and cashback on everyday spends. The card is a must for those who commute on SMRT everyday. This credit card also serves as an EZ link credit card.

The cashbacks aren’t any less attractive either. You get 7.3% cash rebate at FairPrice Xtra Kallang Wave, 5% cashback on grocery purchases from FairPrice, Giant and Sheng Siong, 5% on fast food outlets, cinema theatres and cafes, and 3% on online shopping. You have to spend at least S$50 in a transaction to get the 5% cashback, though. For purchases lower than S$50, you’ll get only 3% cash rebate. All other transactions made through the card will earn you 0.3% cashback. You can link this card to your EZ-Link and use it for your transport needs. If you do an auto top-up for EZ-Reload, you will not be charged any convenience fee. The card also has the Visa contactless payment system – payWave – which you can use for payments below S$100. You need to make a minimum purchase of S$50 with your credit card for 5% rebate on grocery, and a minimum of S$30 for 2% rebate on EZ-Reload. If you spend less than that, you will get only 3% SMRT$ for grocery rebates. So, you get 4.7% SMRT$ for transactions of at least S$50, and 2.7% SMRT$ is given if a bill is less than S$50. EZ-Reload transactions of over S$30 gets 1.7% SMRT$ and for lower amounts, 0.7% SMRT$ is given. And if your total spending in a month is at least S$300, you get additional 0.3% SMRT$.
The beauty of this card is that if your monthly spend goes below S$300, you don’t lose a bulk of the SMRT$ rebates. The rebates will be lower by just 0.3% if you don’t meet the minimum spending requirement. However, you will earn extra 0.3% rebate on non-categorised transactions only if you spend more than S$300 per month.

Card transactions (including online and overseas transactions) effected in US dollars will be converted into Singapore dollars. Card transactions effected in foreign currencies other than US dollars will be converted to US dollars before being converted into Singapore dollars. The conversion will take place on the date on which the transaction is received and recorded by the bank. The currency conversion will be based on the prevailing foreign exchange rate or an exchange rate determined by Visa.
An administrative charge of 2.8% of the transacted amount will be levied on the final amount converted to SGD. In the case of Dynamic Currency Conversions, an extra charge of 1% will be levied on the transacted amount, charged by the card association.
All cash withdrawals performed with the SMRT Credit Card will attract a cash advance fee amounting to 6% of the amount withdrawn, with the minimum charge being S$15. Cash withdrawals will also attract interest charges at 26.9% p.a., levied on a daily basis at a compounding rate until the amount is repaid in full.

The annual rate of interest on transactions is 26% for the Citibank SMRT Credit Card. This interest is calculated at a compounding rate on an everyday basis. If you delay your payments too often or fail to make payments, you will have to pay an extra 3% p.a. as interest. The normal interest rate will be reinstated only once you start making regular payments. The bank may also offer you a low interest rate of 20% p.a. if you have a great repayment history and impeccable credit behaviour.
You will need to make a minimum monthly payment of 3% of your outstanding monthly balance through the mobile app or through internet banking. The payment has to be made by the due date in order to avoid any late payment charges. Any purchase converted to monthly instalment payments will also form part of the minimum payment.
Both online and offline transactions are safe and secure, requiring authentication by the user in order to come through. Online transactions will require the user to enter his/her card details, along with a secure PIN/Password known only to the user. Offline transactions will also require the cardholder to enter his/her password at the merchant terminal in order for the transactions to come through. The card’s security framework also disallows cloning of the card or duplication of any sort.

If you’ve lost your credit card or your card has been stolen, you will need to immediately inform the bank about it. The bank will ask for your card details and identity details to verify your identity. You will also need to provide details of recently performed transactions on your card, following which your credit card will be blocked, precluding further transactions. Citibank will investigate if you’ve acted fraudulently or in gross negligence, especially if unauthorised transactions have taken place on the card before the bank has been informed. The maximum liability in case of lost/stolen cards is S$100.
