    Citi Credit Card Security

Citi credit cards have been designed to offer you peace of mind despite rising instances of online fraud and phishing scams. The bank’s card security system can go a long way in protecting you from online and offline fraud, no matter where you are. However, for this system to work for you, it’s important that you also understand how Citi’s credit card security functions to keep you and your card safe from fraudsters.

    Features and Benefits

    • Card activation: When you get a new/replacement credit card from Citi Singapore, it always comes as deactivated or blocked. This is done to avoid any unauthorised transactions on your card before it reaches your mailing address. Once the card reaches you, you will have to get it activated to start making transactions. You can activate your card through any of the following 24/7 channels: SMS, self-service phone banking, mobile app, and internet banking.
    • Citi alerts: It’s a free-of-cost service that immediately notifies you about transactions performed on your card/account. These alerts will help you keep an eye on when and where your card is being used. This way you will be able to take quick action against any unauthorised transaction on your card. You can also customise this service by setting a default amount at which your Citi alert will be triggered. In addition, with Citi Singapore’s ‘Alert on Demand’ service, you can get request details of your transactions/balances by simply sending an SMS to the bank.
    • 3D one-time password: It’s a simple and easy way of authenticating online transactions and providing an extra layer of protection against card frauds. When you make a purchase at any participating merchant, the 3D secure technology will ask you to enter the one-time password (OTP) that you would receive on your mobile phone. You don’t have to enrol for this feature; as long as you are using your card at a participating 3D secure merchant, the OTP will be generated automatically.
    • EMV chip: All Citi cards are now equipped with EMV (Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) chips to provide enhanced security. EMV chip cards are considered better than magnetic stripe cards when it comes to providing protection against fraudulent transactions. Unlike magnetic stripe cards, EMV cards can’t be cloned easily. In Singapore, most of the merchants are already using EMV chip technology.

    Citi Credit Card Activation

You can activate your Citi card in any of the following ways:

    • Self-service phone banking: Call the bank’s Card Activation Hotline at 6334 2484. You will be required to enter your NRIC or card number. After you have provided all the details as requested, you will have to enter your Telephone PIN (T-PIN) for confirmation. If you don’t have a T-PIN, you can request an OTP. Once your card is successfully activated, you will get a confirmation message from the bank.
    • SMS: Send an SMS from your registered phone number to request activation of your card. If you are in Singapore, type ACT and send it to 72484. If you are overseas, you will have to send the SMS to +65 9657 2484. Once you have sent the SMS, your card will be activated immediately.
    • Citi Mobile: If you have ‘Citibank SG’ mobile app, you can use it to activate your card. If you don’t have it already, you can download it from Google Play or Apple Store. Once you have the app, you can proceed to activate the card even if you haven’t signed in. If you have signed in already, you can go to the app’s menu and look for Activation/Deactivation service under ‘Manage your Cards’. You will be required to key in your mobile token Personal Identification Number (PIN), but if you don’t have that, you can request an OTP. Thereafter, just select the card you wish to activate and hit ‘Confirm’ to complete the process.
    • Citi Online: If you have your Citi Internet Banking PIN, you can activate your card online. Just log in to your account, go to ‘Services’ and then click ‘Card Activation’ under ‘My Profile’. Follow the instructions to finish activation process. You will get a confirmation message once it’s done.

How to Get ATM PIN for Citi Credit Card

Your PIN is a unique number that works as your e-signature, allowing you to access your credit card account online or through ATM. If you are a new Citi cardholder, you can generate your credit card PIN by calling Citi’s round-the-clock self-service banking at (65) 6225 5225. To generate the PIN, you will have to first create your T-PIN. Once you have received your T-PIN over email, you can proceed to create your PIN by again calling the bank’s 24-hour self-service.

If you are an existing Citi card user and have forgotten your PIN, you can use the same service to generate a new PIN.

    Credit Card Safety Tips

    • Be careful while sharing your card details: If you ever get contacted by someone asking you to share your card details, you need to be careful. The call may or may not be from your bank. Even if it’s a call from the bank, never share your card PIN/online banking password with anyone.
    • Online shopping: When you are shopping online, use your card only on trusted websites. Be sure to check the site’s security standards before entering your card details. Avoid saving your card details on any website.
    • Beware of phishing SMSes and emails: Be careful of SMSes and emails asking you to click on a link. The link could redirect you to a phishing website, which might look like the original website of your bank. Don’t provide your card details on such sites until you are sure of the authenticity of the website.
    • Check your account statement regularly: It’s important to keep an eye on your monthly credit card account statement. When you check it regularly, you will know what all transactions were charged to your account in that month. If you see any transaction that you were not aware of, contact your bank immediately.
