CIMB Credit Card Activation
Activation of your credit card for first-time use and for overseas use is a security measure. Your credit card’s magnetic stripe is deactivated as that technology is no longer used in Singapore. Singapore has moved to a more secure EMV chip technology, but many countries in the world still use the magnetic stripe. When you go overseas, your magnetic stripe needs to be activated in order to allow transactions. When you return, you must deactivate the stripe. Since magnetic stripes are quite easily copied, keeping it deactivated helps reduce unauthorised use of the credit card.
To activate your CIMB credit card for first-time use and for overseas use, you can log in to your CIMB Clicks Internet Banking account, or call the Customer Service Hotline. You should also activate SMS and email alerts for your transactions. By receiving SMS alerts on all your transactions, you can keep a check on where your card is being used. In case it is lost or stolen and you are unaware of it, getting a notification will alert you to the transactions being made without your knowledge. To activate SMS alerts, just ensure that you are providing your mobile number and email address at the time of applying for the credit card. This service is free of cost. You can also change or update your number through CIMB Clicks.
CIMB Credit Card Cancellation
You can cancel or terminate your credit card whenever you want by sending a written notice to the bank’s address as given above. The primary and supplementary cards you are using have to be returned to the bank in pieces in case of account closure. You also have to pay your credit card balance immediately. The bank is also liable to cancel your card if they find you involved in any kind of fraud, in case of repeated defaults, bankruptcy, or if your income or credit score goes down.
