    CIMB Credit Card Activation

    Credit cards constitute a significant part of CIMB Bank’s value proposition and the bank provides an array of cards designed to meet specific needs of customers. However, before you start using your card, you must remember to activate it. The bank provides numerous channels through which activating your card is convenient.

    Activation for Local use

    There are 2 ways to make your CIMB credit card ready for local use:

    Phone Banking

    Call the 24/7 customer care hotline at +65 6333 6666, requesting the bank to activate the card.

    SMS Banking

    Send an SMS with the code – ACTVCARD primary cardholder’s NRIC or Passport Number your CIMB Credit Card number – to 79900. However, ensure that the number you are sending the SMS from is the one you have given to the bank to receive your regular spend alerts. Besides, you must send the SMS between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Supplementary cards must be activated separately by the primary cardmember.

    Activation for Overseas Use

    As in case of local use, you must also make the card transaction-ready when you plan to travel to a foreign country. For security reasons, the magnetic stripe on CIMB cards will be disabled for overseas payments, to ensure that no fraudulent transactions occur. However, there are still many countries that still use card swiping instead of the EMV chip at POS machines. So, you might need to activate the magnetic stripe every single time you plan to travel.

    You can call the hotline number for activation of the card for use outside Singapore. You also need to deactivate the stripe once you return to Singapore. A confirmation SMS will be sent to you the day the card gets activated.
