    Citibank Student Credit Card

    Citibank is a leading banking institute in Singapore and enjoys a strong global presence as well. Citibank hosts a range of Citi cards that specifically cater to a large consumer base and offer cards with varying benefits such as shopping credit cards, travel credit cards, dining credit cards, etc. Citibank also offers credit cards to working adults who have just started their professional career as well as students. Citibank’s student card is known as the Citibank Clear Credit Card. It offers reward points and savings at select dining outlets and on petrol expenses.

    Special Features and Benefits of the Citibank Student Credit Card

    • The card is very affordable and charges a low annual fee of S$29.96 inclusive of GST. The card also comes with an annual fee waiver for the first year.
    • Cardholders can earn 1 Citi Dollar for every S$1 charged to the card. The Citi Dollars can be used to offset purchases at select retail outlets. Citi Dollars earned have a validity of 1 year.
    • The card offers you up to 10% Citi Rebates at various food & beverage outlets, cafes, retail stores and grocery stores.
    • You can get access to the Citi Gourmet Pleasures programme which gives you a wide range of dining perks such as discounts and 1-for1 offers at a wide range of restaurants and fast food joints.
    • The Citibank Clear Credit card also gives you savings of up to 14% on petrol expenses, like a citi fuel card when used at select fuel stations such as Esso and Shell.

    Interest rates on the Citibank Student Credit Card

    Citibank charges an annual interest rate of 28%. The card charges a minimum interest amount if the outstanding balance on the card is below S$3. The minimum interest charged is S$3. The interest is charged when you fail to make the full outstanding payment on your outstanding dues by your due date and the same will be applied to all new transactions made on your card until the balance has been paid in full.

    If the outstanding dues on the card are paid in full and there is no balance being carried forward, then there will be no interest charged. The card offers an interest free period of 25 days. The interest-free period is only valid when you pay your outstanding dues in full.

    DCC or Dynamic Currency Conversion charges All transactions made in Singapore Dollars but processed overseas will be charged a fee of 1% by Visa or MasterCard.

    Eligibility Criteria for Citibank Student Credit Card

    You must meet the following eligibility criteria in order to apply for this credit card:

    • Eligibility criteria for students: Students who wish to apply for this card must be above the age of 18 years. Singaporean citizens, Permanent Residents and foreigners are eligible to apply for this card. Foreign applicants must provide a student visa or study permit that has a validity for at least 6 months at the time of application. Students who apply for the card do not require a minimum annual income criteria. However, applicants below the age of 18 years must provide consent from legal guardian or parent when applying for the card. You need to be a student of one of these organisations if you want to get this card: SMU, NTU, SIT, SIM, NUS, SUTD, UNLV, University of Chicago Booth School of Business, NAFA, ESSEC, DigiPen, GIST-TUM Asia, S P Jain, INSEAD, Tisch, LASALLE-SIA, Nanyang Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and Singapore Polytechnic.
    • Eligibility criteria for working adults: Working adults who wish to apply for this card must be above the age of 21 years. Singaporean citizens, Permanent Residents and foreigners are eligible to apply for this card. Foreign applicants must provide an employment pass that has a validity of at least 6 months at the time of application. Working adults must earn a minimum annual income of S$18,000 to be eligible to apply for the card.

    Documents Required for Citibank Student Credit Card

    The documents required when applying for the Citibank Clear Credit Card are dependent on the nature of the applicant. For applicants who are tertiary students who have attained the age of 21 or more, the documents required are as follows:

    • A copy of the applicant’s NRIC, both front and back.
    • A copy of the applicant’s Matriculation card.
    • A copy of the applicant’s Student ID card.

    Students under the age of 21 are required to obtain consent from their legal guardian. As such, additional documents are required. For students below the age of 21, the following documents are required:

    • A front and back copy of the applicant’s NRIC.
    • A front and back copy of the legal guardian or parent’s NRIC.
    • In case of consent being provided by a legal guardian, then the applicant must provide a copy of the “Legal Documentation of Guardianship”.

    The documents required to be submitted by parents or legal guardians are as follows:

    • A front and back copy of their NRIC.
    • Salaried parents or guardians must submit income documents such as a copy of their latest computerised payslips dating back 3 months or a copy of their latest computerised payslip dating back 1 month along with the copy of the latest Notice of Assessment along with a copy of the latest CPF Contribution History statement dating back at least 6 months.
    • Self-employed, commission-based, or variable income based guardians or parents must submit income documents such as the latest Income Tax Notice of Assessment dating back at least 2 years and a copy of the latest CPF Contribution History statement dating back 12 months.

    How to apply for the Citibank Student Credit Card

    You can follow the simple steps given below to apply for this credit card:

    Visit Citibank’s official website for Singapore and navigate to the Citibank Credit Card main webpage. On this webpage, click on the “Apply Now” option.

    You will be directed to a page where you can get started on the application form. You will be required to fill in a few fields of information pertaining to your identity before you can download the form.

    Once the form has been downloaded and filled in, you are required to email the application form to sgcardsales2@citi.com to begin the processing of the application. Do note that you must keep your supporting documents ready and submit the required documents along with the application form.
