    Options Available with Chubb

    A. Chubb Travel Insurance

This policy comes in 4 plans: Saver, Economy, Business, and First. The plan you decide to choose will depend on your travel needs and criteria.

Chubb Travel Insurance: Saver Key Highlights

    • S$500 loss of travel documents and passport.
    • S$1,000 provided as coverage for medical treatment upon return to Singapore.
    • S$5,000 provided as trip cancellation coverage.

The Chubb Travel Insurance Saver plan is good if you are looking to travel to Malaysia, Batam Island, or Bintan Island on a budget. It offers up to S$5,000 in travel inconvenience coverage which is a reasonable amount considering it is the most basic of plans in the Singaporean travel insurance market. It does provide S$500,000 in personal liabilities coverage, should something go wrong in terms of third-party injuries or any property damage sustained along the way. It also does come with S$100,000 in extensive water and winter sports coverage, not to mention additional golf and wedding accessories coverage as well. This would be a good plan if you were going on vacation and thinking of engaging in a ton of sporting activities - both on land and on water.

    • S$5,000 provided for trip cancellation coverage.
    • S$20,000 provided as hospital income coverage overseas and up to S$6,000 in Singapore.

This plan offers the industry standard overseas medical expenses coverage, at S$250,000. It provides unlimited emergency medical evacuation coverage. It, however, fails to provide any coverage for the fraudulent usage of your lost or stolen credit cards. On top of that, it provides only minimal coverage for baggage and travel delays. At S$3,000, it’s baggage loss coverage seems to make up for the previous two coverages, however. It also offers substantial winter and water sports coverage, at S$100,000. Add to that it covers golf, wedding accessories, and attire - which makes it a good deal should you be travelling abroad for golf or your wedding.

The Chubb Travel Insurance Business plan provides unlimited emergency medical evacuation coverage, in the event you need to be taken to safety immediately. It also provides close to the maximum value, at S$1 million, of personal liability coverage. Again, the unauthorised usage of your credit cards is not covered under this plan, should you manage to lose them or get them stolen out of negligence on your part. S$5,000 in baggage loss coverage is also offered for those who suffer from repeated occurrences of the carrier losing or temporarily misplacing their prized personal belongings. And finally, this plan goes on to offer the exact same water and winter sports coverage as the two tiers before it.

It also provides great value in its S$2 million coverage of overseas medical expenses, unlimited medical evacuation coverage and S$20,000 in travel inconvenience coverage. It also goes on to provide the maximum personal liability coverage in its class, at S$2 million. And finally, this plan is one of the highest optional coverage of S$200,000 in water and winter sports, S$5,000 in wedding coverage, and does not make it a point to exclude golf coverage while it’s at it.

TravellerShield Plus: Classic Plan Key Highlights

    • S$5,000 coverage for accidental emergency dental treatment.
    • S$10,000 provided as hospital income coverage overseas and up to S$500 in Singapore.

This plan provides $25,000 in coverage for medical treatment in Singapore. The unauthorised usage of your credit cards is not covered - should they be misplaced, lost, or stolen while you are abroad. Like any other standard plan in its overall coverage - it does not provide coverage for any recreational activities or wedding accessories, etc. This makes it a choice if you are looking for basic coverage from an economical point of view.

This plan provides S$50,000 in medical treatment coverage in Singapore. Unlike other plans, however, it provides S$2,000 in fraudulent usage of your credit cards coverage. This makes it an ideal plan to travel with to erase all anxiety related to losing your credit cards or having them stolen. It also provides S$1,600 in travel delay and baggage delay coverage. Furthermore, it covers water sports, winter sports, pet care, and golf - making it one of the most comprehensive plans out there in terms of coverage.

Its personal liability cover of S$1 million is also desirable. Add to that its S$3,000 coverage for the fraudulent usage of your credit card while overseas, and you can see why this plan is top-tier. Also, its baggage delay, travel delay, and S$8,000 loss of baggage coverage are some of the highest available. And finally, it offers coverage of all things lifestyle related - from water sports, to golf, and pet care.

Things To Consider Before Getting This Travel Insurance Plan

    Pre-existing conditions

In the event that you suffer from complications arising from a pre-existing medical condition while overseas, you will not be covered by Chubb travel insurance. It would serve you well to make alternative arrangements to safeguard against such complications occurring.

    Accidental death & disability

The Chubb accidental death and disability coverage ranges from S$150,000 to S$500,000 - the latter being on the higher end of the spectrum in the industry.

    Emergency medical evacuation

This plan provides up to unlimited emergency medical evacuation coverage, should you need to be taken to safety while you are abroad for any reason.

    Pregnancy

Many insurers do not cover pregnancy-related complications because of the high risk involved. Chubb travel insurance is different in that it provides up to S$5,000 in emergency coverage should any pregnancy-related complications or illnesses arise during your trip abroad.

    Unauthorised credit card charges

Chubb travel insurance plans provide up to S$5,000 in coverage for the fraudulent usage of your credit cards, which is not common practice among Singaporean insurers. This means that you will not have to incur the cost of replacing your cards on your own, or be held responsible should your card be maxed out in the process.

    Additional coverage

All of the plans offer some combination of lifestyle coverage - from golf, to pet care, to water sports, and wedding accessories.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. In the event my checked-in baggage arrives damaged, would I be able to make a claim?

    A. Any claim involving the damage or loss of baggage that you checked-in should first be made against the airline or service provider responsible. You should then collect any proof of compensation (documentation) from them as to whether the claim was accepted or denied. Should the claim be denied by the service provider, proof of denial must be also be submitted.

    Q. When should I apply for the Chubb TravellerShield Plus plan?

    A. As long as your departure date happens to be within 180 days from the day you apply for the insurance, you can apply for TravellerShield Plus.

    Q. If I am travelling to multiple countries on my trip, which plan should I go with?

    A. You must choose a plan based on your furthest destination. Say for example you are travelling to both the United States of America and Thailand, you will have to purchase the Worldwide plan to cover both destinations. Now, if you are only travelling to Malaysia and China, all you need to purchase is the Asia Pacific plan.

    Q. Do we need to purchase separate travel insurance policies if I am travelling with my friend?

    A. No. You and your friend can purchase the “Couple” plan for a single trip as it covers two adults, regardless of whether they are partners or not. That said, should you need an annual multi-trip plan, each of you will have to get a separate policy.

    Q. Do I purchase “Family” coverage if I am travelling with both of my parents?

    A. No. The “Family” plan only covers your children, your spouse, and you - if all of you happen to be travelling together. To have coverage extended to your parents, you must purchase two “Individual” plans. For a more economical option, you may consider purchasing a “Couple” to include your parents on the trip.

    Q. What is considered a pre-existing condition?

    A. A “pre-existing medical condition” is any condition which you suffer from, or should have been aware you were suffering from, which you had within a year before the start of your travel insurance policy.

    Q. Will I need to undergo any medical examinations in order to apply for My VoyageGuard Travel Insurance?

    A. So long as you are aware that no pre-existing conditions are covered, no medical examinations will be necessary to purchase any of the My VoyageGuard Travel Insurance plans.

    Q. Would it be possible to pay extra so that my travel insurance covers my pre-existing medical conditions?

    A. No. Unfortunately, Chubb Travel Insurance does not carry this option.

    Q. Would I be able to increase my baggage cover by any means?

    A.  No. Unfortunately, the baggage cover you get will be fixed according to the plan you choose to go with. Should you need greater coverage than the plan you currently have, you can always upgrade to a plan that suits your more immediate needs.

    Q. Should I purchase any items during my trip abroad, would they be covered under the travel insurance plan I hold?

    A. Yes. Personal property purchased overseas will be covered to some extent. The My VoyageGuard Travel Insurance plans provide coverage anywhere from S$3,500 to S$8,000. This comes with a S$500 cap per item purchased overseas, and a S$1,000 cap for laptops.

    Q. What do I do if my luggage is misplaced or lost for more than 24 hours?

    A. Chubb Travel Insurance will pay up to S$200 for every six consecutive hours your baggage has been delayed. This comes with a maximum benefit amount that is specified on your travel insurance policy.
